LCB Enrolled
Add Value to
Young Stock
Signal to buyers and suppliers that young stock were raised with reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, commanding a higher value over the base market.
Program Overview
LCB Enrolled certifies stocker and feeder calves as promising candidates for the end-of-life USDA Process Verified Program (PVP). Cow-calf producers and backgrounders can ensure their sustainable herd management practices are monitored, measured and verified, offering the opportunity for all along the supply chain to earn a premium. Cattle qualify when their net GHG emissions demonstrate a reduction of at least 7.5% compared to the industry baseline, over halfway to meeting the PVP's required 10%.
Our Process
IMI Global, a division of Where Food Comes From (WFCF), directs the LCB Enrolled program audit. The certification is based on scores that represent the candidate cattle's performance for the life cycle segment or segments they have completed. This may include the review of records from the cow-calf or backgrounding stages. Cattle certified under LCB Enrolled will be on track for LCB USDA PVP certification if they continue to meet the required standards through each subsequent segment of their finishing.
To determine if young stock qualify, producers must submit records to IMI Global to quantify the GHG emissions across the same categories as the LCB USDA PVP: fertilizer, feed and function. Candidate cattle must also be enrolled in WFCF's CARE Certified program. Participation in CARE will contribute to meeting operational transparency and traceability requirements for LCB Enrolled.
CARE is a suite of sustainability standards that certifies participating farmers and ranchers are implementing best practices in animal husbandry, environmental stewardship and a productive engagement with their local communities and the people within them.
