Program Overview

GeneNet has a rich history of helping customers gain access to competitive grid marketing opportunities for their fed or finished cattle. Developed in 1999 by Dr. Ken Conway, GeneNet works with packing partners to enhance the grid structure and offer participating cattlemen and women a better bottom line return at closeout. The program continues to evolve and expand premium pricing opportunities for both traditional beef producers and the growing beef on dairy segment.

Data you Can Use

With carcass data provided through GeneNet, feeders can pinpoint the value of their input investment in high-quality genetics and management. Evaluating performance on the rail can guide business and genetic decisions while garnering better marketing opportunities and access.

Value-Based Marketing

Participants have the opportunity to sell on a value-based grid where cattle are processed in a timely manner. With the versatility to market with two base-price options, breeders can raise cattle that consistently meet carcass targets and generate superior value.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the process to schedule cattle?

Fed cattle can be sold on the GeneNet grid when a producer believes they have reached the ideal window based on all market conditions. Animals are scheduled for harvest on a weekly basis. Producers must sign an affidavit with the intended packer prior to the first shipment.

Contact Mark Johnson, director of beef and dairy supply chains, to learn more about shipping and head count requirements.

What is the cost to participate?

A base fee of $7 per head allows producers grid marketing access and group carcass data insights. To obtain individual carcass results and associated EPD correlation values, an additional $3 fee per head will connect cattle identification numbers to carcass performance indicators such as Ribeye Area (REA) and Marbling (MARB).

Are special tags needed?
No program ear tags are needed to participate. Tag transfer can be accomplished with dangle or electronic identification (EID) tags.
